Cancer Council NSW connects with communities across the state by providing support to those affected by cancer, advocating for change, engaging fundraisers, and helping people reduce their cancer risk.
Thanks to generous supporters, Cancer Council NSW is the largest funding body for cancer research outside of the Government. In 20/21 an impressive $16.8 million was contributed to research across all stages of cancer.
Some of the ways Cancer Council supports our local community:
Distributing thousands of 'Understanding Cancer' resource booklets, ensuring people have access to reliable and easy to understand information.
By running a free and confidential telephone support service, providing information, emotional and practical support for cancer patients, people living with cancer, their families, carers, friends and healthcare professionals.
Providing financial assistance payments to local people struggling with the high cost of cancer. This extends to practical financial advice from trained financial counsellors through to free legal, financial and workplace advice across the Central Coast through a Pro Bono Program.
Local families have access to support with cleaning and gardening through a Home Help payment assistance program, just to make those every day chores at home a little easier.
Hosting local screening activations and Cancer Council talks with a focus on the National Bowel, Breast and Cervical Screening Program.
The Cancer Council works locally with our community and State Members of Parliament to advocate change to laws and policies to reduce cancer risks and improve cancer care.
